Peer Mentor Training Options
School-based Peer Mentors must receive Peer Mentor Training. We will offer the following training opportunities to meet this requirement.
A. After-school Workshop
Teachers will only need to attend one of these dates. More meetings will be offered as necessary.
Time: 3:30 – 5:00
Dates: September 19, October 2nd, October 17, October 23
Location: Board Auditorium @ central office

B. Online Modules
“21st Century Mentoring” is a series of free, self-paced online modules available through HomeBase in the NCEES Professional Development section. Completion of the modules will earn the participant 1 CEU (10 contact hours).
Certificates can be printed once the training is complete for course verification.

Possible Ways Peer Mentors Can Support Beginning Teachers
- Check in frequently with your BT.
- Assist your BT with beginning of school procedures.
- Familiarize your BT with school facility and personnel.
- Help your BT locate supplies and resources.
- Assist your BT with their PDP.
- Offer for your BT to observe you teach.
- Share your best methods of parent communication with your BT.
- Assist your BT in connecting with support personnel: coaches, DLF's, EC specialists, ESL teachers, counselors, etc.
- Be conscious of high stress times in BT's first year of teaching (see Phases of a Beginning Teacher).
- Share your best methods of classroom management strategies with your BT.
- Take time to reflect and celebrate the small successes of your BT.
